MLB Whistle Stops

Jayson Werth's mammoth deal with the Nats enables Carlos Gonzalez (they call him CarGo) into a 7-yr, $80mil extension with the Rockies.  The contract runs through 2017.

The Padres add 1B/OF Brad Hawpe for 2-yrs, $3mil guaranteed.

Octavio Dotel lands north of the border, agreeing for 1-yr, $3.5mil with the Jays.

The Rockies acquire Matt Lindstrom from the Astros for minor leaguers pitchers Jonnathan Aristil and Wes Musick.

Adrian Beltre is close to signing 6-yr, $95mil contract with the Rangers.  No word on what this means for Michael Young, but, if it was me, I would move him to first.

Texas has finalized deals with LHP Arthur Rhodes (1-yr, $3.9mil) and RHP Brandon Webb (1-yr, $3mil).  Incidentally, former Indians prospect Max Ramirez was DFAed as part of adding Rhodes and Webb to the 40-man.

Expect 1B Adam LaRoche to ink a 2-yr, $8.5mil deal with Nationals within the week.

The Tribe "would love" to trade Sizemore and Hafner.  No shit, Sherlock.  Apparently, there is much more interest in bullpen arms Joe Smith, Rafael Perez & Chris Perez, as well as Fausto Carmona.

Also, the Indians may have competition for Bartolo Colon as Bart has stated that he has had contact with both the Yankees and Rangers.

Cheers.
