If, like me, you spent your Saturday afternoon watching BYU step through San Diego St and into a possible #1 seed in the NCAA tournament, you became familiar with the Cougars' 6'9" sophomore forward Brandon Davies. While Davies' did not fill up the stat sheet, his physical play helped stifle the Aztecs' big men and produce the victory that vaulted BYU to #3 in the nation.
Davies has been dismissed from the team for the remainder of the season for an undisclosed violation of the university's honor code. Brigham Young has a zero tolerance policy regarding the tenants of the code (outlined below). Without Davies (11.1 points and a team-leading 6.2 boards per game) the starting 4 spot will either be filled by 6'5" Charles Abuou (currently the main 3) or 6'9" Stephen Rodgers (10.5 mpg, 4.4 ppg, 2.2 rpg) with seldom used 6'10" James Anderson (7.2 mpg, 1.0 ppg, 1.5 rpg) seeing increased minutes. Hopefully this setback does not derail the Cinderella train. And hopefully BD didn't get kicked to the curb for sippin' on some Earl Grey.
BYU Honor Code
• Be honest
• Live a chaste and virtuous life
• Obey the law and all campus policies
• Use clean language
• Respect others
• Abstain from alcoholic beverages, tobacco, tea, coffee and substance abuse
• Participate regularly in church services
• Observe the Dress and Grooming Standards
• Encourage others in their commitment to comply with the Honor Code
P.S. The Saints have signed big ol' Shaun Rogers
Energy just always changes state and I refuse to believe that human consciousness is the sole exception to this universal law."
