Now That They've Got Wood...

The Indians get a couple of never-will-bes from the Yankees.  Headed to the organization - RHP Andrew Shive, 25, who has never pitched above single A and missed the entire 2009 season & 3B/2B Matt Cusick, 24, who has at least made it to AAA.  They're not prospects.  Don't bother remembering their names, you won't hear them again.

Also, dig this wicked well-done piece on Adam Miller from IPI.  Consider him a real possibility to steal a bullpen job in the spring.

Blond and perky for the win!  Glee Gone Wild!

Oh, Charlie...

Staying true to his contention that tonight's game was the Phillies' biggest of the year, former Indians skipper Charlie Manuel made a bold move as the Giants came to bat in the bottom of the 9th in a 5-5game.  He brought Roy Oswalt in to pitch.  The logic is sound.  Oswalt shuts down the G-Men for a few innings, the Phils scratch out a run, and go to Roy Halladay tomorrow to send the team back to the east coast with a 3-2 lead.  As I've stated before, there are not so many tomorrows left.

I applaud Manuel's call.  Now is the time that the wheat is separated from the chaff, when legends are made.  Philadelphia pitching coach Rich Dubee :-j approached Charlie in the 8th and relayed a message from Oswalt that the game 2 starter felt good and wanted to make himself available for a relief outing.  Manuel took full advantage.  You cannot worry about winning game 6 before winning game 4.  Good man, Charlie Brown.  Unfortunately for the Fightins Aubrey Huff snuck a  a grounder into right, Buster Posey is Buster Posey and Juan Uribe was able to golf a pitch at his ankles into left for the win.

It's no secret that I'm rooting for the Giants in the NLCS.  I dig the Panda.  I dig that the middle of Frisco's lineup is a collection of castaways.  I dig the freak and his avatar.  I dig changing your lineup in the middle of the NLCS because your leadoff hitter is 3-for-25 in the postseason.  I dig parity and have no interest in seeing the NL send the same squad to the series for the third consecutive season, especially since they've finagled their way into the H2O triple ace formation.  I abhor dynasties (see Yankees), likely because they never have the word Cleveland attached to them.  I'm glad the Giants won, but I respect Charlie Manuel for the decision that he made.

Coaching Carousel

Blue Jays Managerial Finalists:  DeMarlo Hale (BoSox), Sandy Alomar Jr & John Farrell

And the new Athletics bench coach... drum roll please... Joel Skinner.  The Tribe has now officially missed out on the only man worth his salt to the pilot the team during the last 20 years.  Yay, Manny Acta!  Boo-Rah!  We're sooooooooo lucky to have him to lead our up and coming team that was worse this year than last.  Gotta go!  Happy dance time!

What A Buncha Flags

A couple of great quotes on the NFL's new policy of suspension for helmet-to-helmet contact or what I like to call "the pussification of football."

Bears LB Brian Urlacher -
"It's freaking football. There are going to be big hits. I don't understand how they can do this after one weekend of hitting. And I can't understand how they can suspend us for it. I think it's a bunch of bull.
"You know what we should do? We should just put flags on everybody. Let's make it the NFFL - the National Flag Football League. It's unbelievable."

Redskins DE Phillip Daniels - "There has been a warning sticker on the back of every helmet since pee wee league. When u put that helmet on you know you will hit or be hit. We still choose to play. Parents are asked to sign forms for their kids to play because of the dangers of the sport. Nothing is different."

Maybe EA can just design Madden so that each NFL player can control his own avatar and the new 18 game season could be played out on PS3.  Then no one would get hurt.  Sheesh.

All Texas, No Teixeira

CJ Wilson and CC Sabathia square off in about an hour, in what will hopefully be the last Yankees game of the season.  Mark Teixiera will not be in uniform.  In fact, Big Teix's season is over, thanks to a strained right hamstring (wuss).  The Yankees removed the slugging first baseman from their roster today, replacing him with some scrub infielder (Eduardo Nunez?).  The roster move dictates that even if the Bombers advance to the series, Mark Teixeira will not be eligible.  Still, the Yankees being the bleepin' Yankees, the replacement at first is Lance Berkman.  By that I mean .296 career hitter, 327 homers, & a .954 OPS.  Yeah, right.  No unfair advantage or anything.  I hope to be toasting their demise in about 4.5.  Cheers.

Classy As Always, New York

3-1 Rangers.  Teixeira's hurt.  28 my keister.  Maybe Girardi should concentrate more on choosing the right starter and less on changing his uniform number or selling Chalupas.  Maybe it doesn't matter and the cruel joke of Yankee dominance has come to an end.  One more Texas, one more.  F#<&.  THE.  YANKEES!

Fair Warning

That's what the NFL concedes that it needs to provide players with before handing down suspensions for helmet-to-helmet hits.  Even so, the league has levied some hefty fines for a few infractions over the weekend.  Brandon Meriweather owes $50k, James Harrison $75k for his attacks on Josh Cribbs and Mohammad Massaquai and, in what I think is a real wrist slapper, Dunta Robinson $50k for the following missile-shot that concussed DeSean Jackson.
